DIY Glass Runes: Raindrop Runes

The kids decided they wanted to learn about runes. My set is far too old for me to allow children to play with. Some things just have to be mine. So we decided to hop on over to the local dollar store and find supplies to make a set for them.

That is how we ended up with these beautiful DIY Raindrop Runes that look so lovely I now want a set for myself. Give thes DIY glass runes a try. Encouraging young witches can be easy and inexpensive if you look outside the box.

What are runes?

Runesareaseries of symbols used for the art of divination. Sets of runes can be made from any natural material from wood to river rock to these glass runes.

As the story goes Odin the Norse god of wisdom and healing impaled himself upon a tree that connects the earth with its roots and sky with its branches up high. He did so to connect with the Earth and Sky and gain knowledge of the meaning of the runes. He passed this on to the Vikings.

Runes shapes themselves stem from ancient Germanic. Each rune has its own letter sound and meaning. If you remind me I will come back and do a post on each runes meaning and more on how they work. For now, if you want to learn runes there are several books that can help.

Why should you make your own runes

Like with most magickal rtools making your own runes is the best way to ensure that you have a tool that is truly connected to you. As you make each one you can get a feel for them and they can get a feel for you.

Making your own runes is economical. When you make your own runes you are saving money. These can be done with dollar store items making them cheap and maybe even free magic supplies if you have these things in your home.

This is a great project for kids making them a wonderful and friendly witchcraft tool for kids. Anyone can benefit from making supplies from scratch but for kids, this can be a great way to get hands-on with learning.

How to make your own DIY Glass Runes

Making your own set of DIY glass runes is easy and a great project for young ones to work on. While you could use river rocks, stones your find outside, or wooden disks we opted for these large glass rocks used for decor and fairy gardens.

Odds are after a few get lost that is where the surviving raindrop runes will be going is our fairy garden.

diy rain drop runes

:: All you need is a list of each rune.

:: Large glass pebbles

:: Black acrylic paint or nail polish

:: Toothpick

Use the toothpick to draw each rune backward on the bottom side of the pebbles. This is great because it forces you to give each rune shape your full attention as you are not only replicating it but doing so backward.

Once these runes dry you are ready to use them. It really is that easy and gives you something beautiful and unique to add to your collection.

How to use Runes

Runes are used for divination. This means to take a look into the future. Anyone can do this with a little practice. First, you want to get familiar with the runes. When you start reading don’t be shy about keeping a book nearby to help.

No one learns something like this overnight. Walking your own path is important and that means on your own pace.
