Simple Activities for Mabon

I love fall. The cool air, fun activities, spirits wondering just begging to make connections, and the magic so strong you can feel it in the air. September is a busy month for us. With two kids having birthdays and school starting back up for the year things can get a little crazy. Toss in Mabon and we have a party of sorts going on all month long. We don’t do a lot for the holidays but these activities for Mabon are sure to get us in the spirit.

What is Mabon?

Mabon is the 2nd of the 3 harvest festivals. It is also the fall equinox or the day that everyone considers to be the official start of the autumn season. Here in the Northern Hemisphere falls somewhere between September 21st and the 29th. This year (2021) it lands on the 21st, the Monday after our trip to our trip up north. We will be a bit worn out but I still have some fun activities planned to celebrate.

Things to do for Mabon

Celebrating Mabon is all about having fun with the fruits of fall. Whipping up your favorite pumpkin and apple dishes like starting out your day with fresh pumpkin pancakes, Cleaning up the yard, and baking goodies to be thankful for the food fall brings. Mabon is a great time to start prepping your home for winter, cleaning the house, canning vegetables, and drying the last herbs of the season. Do what feels right for you and have fun with it.

Be Thankful

  • Use Mabon as a time to be thankful for what you have. Meditate and take time to give off the energy of gratitude for what you have. This is a great time for a simple ritual of lighting a fall candle and journaling all of the people and things you are grateful to have in your life.
  • This is a great time to do a mini version of the American Thanksgiving with your loved ones.

Enjoy apples and pumpkins

  • Visit your local pumpkin patch and take your first hey ride of the season.
  • Go apple picking or visiting your local cider mill. Fresh apple cider makes a great way to celebrate Mabon.
